Sure, we’ve all heard it before. “All games are nothing but senseless violence.”
This topic is hard to defend.
As one who prides him self on a logical sense of this medium, I’ve seen some pretty true and fact based arguments against our games.
But where they fall short on one thing, the others.
Sure ill give you that, Mortal Kombat and Gears of War are not the most subtle games when it comes to giving the people what they want.
And do you know what that is? Violence.
The only reason people would play a game for a reason is what the game gives. (Yes, a very confusing statement.)
We no longer have the argument that ALL video games are violent. We have the argument that violent video games should not be sold to immature people i.e. children.
And it’s not as simple as you mite think.
I’m not going to point the blame at the parents (don’t want the nasty emails) or the makers of the game. I won’t even go so far as to point the blame at the kids them selves.
"Then who is to blame? Surely there must be someone to blame, society must have something to hate together (this saying reminds me of Jews). If not every thing would fall apart.”
Personally I believe that the blame should go to no one other, than you. The ones who say such things.
Violence is in the human nature. Its how we’ve survived all these thousands of years and its how we’ll kill ourselves (and maybe the planet don’t know about that one yet.) in the end.
In short, if you haven’t tried a video game, why not?
"Well I don’t like violence.” well here, try Farmville.
"Well I don’t like anything to flashy." well here try Limbo.
“Well I like puzzles.” well, you’ll like Portal.
“Well I don’t like any thing to complex.” give Pong a try.
"I want something to beat up after a day of putting up with my boss." try God of War.
"I like fantasy, the idea of goblins and magic." give Oblivion a try.
"I like epic sci-fi adventures.” here’s mass effect.
As you can see to say you don’t like video games is to say you’ve never giving them a chance.
